However, after the French occupied the country in the late 18th century, it became known as Helvetic Republic and then recognized as Switzerland in 1815 when it gained independence. For people who enjoy sightseeing and touring, nothing beats what Switzerland has to offer.

For starters, people come from around the world to ski the Swiss Alps, an amazing experience like none other. The alpine is gorgeous with beautiful peaks and scenery that will take your breath away. As an example, Mount Pilatus in Lucerene offers one of the most panoramic views in the country. Typically, you will find that all mountain ranges in Switzerland have snow caps all year, one of the most famous being Jungfraujoch, which translates to “Rooftop of Europe”.

In addition to skiing, Switzerland is ideal for hikers, campers, backpackers, and general outdoor enthusiasts. With many great places to explore, it is no wonder this is such a popular destination. In the mountain regions, it is common to find several small villages of simple people who love the natural beauty that Switzerland offers. Therefore, while in this part of Europe, it is imperative that some time be spent exploring the various mountains. Switzerland is also known for its many rivers to include Inn, Rhine, and Ticino.
