Lille is the third largest city in France and has an animated blend of things to do and places to see. The liveliest part is the Grand Place where locals and visitors socialise in the many cafes and bars which spill out into the centre. Lille has a tempting selection of grand stores and independent boutiques, on Sunday try out your bartering technique at the local flea market. In the charming old quarter, along the winding cobbled streets are a variety of specialist antique shops. Easy access by Eurostar (1 hour 20 mins from Waterloo) or by car from Calais make this an ideal base for a quick shopping trip.
