What was your first holiday in Europe?
The first holiday I can properly remember was going on holiday with my father to Jersey at the age of 11. We spent most days on the wonderful St Ouen’s beach.
What was your last?
October this year on the island of Mallorca, Palma old town is absolutely beautiful and I actually looking at doing something there in the next year.
What do you love about Europe?
The diversified cultures, culinary experiences and scenery which are contained within an easy to reach and small area. The variation of the history of the different European countries including the conflicts they have had over the years with each other are fascinating. Europe contains some of the world’s most beautiful and easy to enjoy architecture.
Favourite hotel?
The St James Club, Paris because when i created the clubs in the 80’s everyone told me i was mad, more than 25 years later they are still as popular as ever.
Worst Hotel?
Those hotels to which I never return and shall remain unnamed, they know who they are!
Favourite city?
Paris and the view from the Sacre Coeur
Favourite beach?
Babbacombe Beach, South Devon
Favourite restaurant?
St Pancras Grand, a fantastic surprise on a recent trip to London on Eurostar. This buzzing glamorous new addition to London’s dining scene is a great destination for lunch or dinner with friends or colleagues. Chef; Billy Reid has been part of some of the most popular restaurants in London in the past and I’ll put money on this one being his best yet!
Who / what do you never leave home without?
Louis, my black & white long haired Chihuahua
What do you never leave Europe without?
A smile and a desire to return soon.
Ferry, ship, plane, train, or car?
Eurotunnel as they facilitate travel with pets.
What is your worst European travel memory?
An emergency landing at Heathrow, as any of my close friends will know my fear of flying goes back over 20 years when me and my family had a near fatal flying accident, I’ve learnt it’s safer to keep my feet on the ground since then!
What is your “golden rule” of travel?
Check in early so that the stress of travel is minimised.
What’s keeping you busy at the moment?
The advancement of my two principle projects on the spice island of Grenada, West Indies
