Munich is the capital of Bavaria in the south of Germany from where you have easy access to the Alps if you were to stay beyond the limits of a short break. The popular opinion is that Bavarians like to have more full than people in the north. Whether this is true or not is for you to decide, all we can say is that there’s a wealth of history to delve into even if you decide to visit for the Oktoberfest.
Munich has a population of about 1.3 million with a strong community of various ethnic groups especially Turks, Greeks and Croats.
The winter tends to be pretty cold in Munich due to its position with average temperatures in January a chilly -2 C. It‘s pleasantly sunny and warm in the summer with the average rising to a more pleasant 24C in July.
