Short Breaks in Jersey

 

Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands, situated about 95 miles from the South coast of England and just 20 miles from Normandy in France. It has a population of approximately 91,000 over a land area of 45 square miles.

Getting Around
Car hire is a great option if you want to see the whole island at a leisurely pace, petrol is about 10% cheaper than on the mainland. Cyclists have the benefit of 100 miles of green lanes where there is a speed limit of 15 miles per hour. Jersey tourism has created a cycle network specifically for this kind of tourist. Currency
Sterling is the currency but the island print their own notes which are legal tender in the UK. Euro’s are not widely accepted in Jersey.

Passports
UK citizens and those of the Republic of Ireland can travel to Jersey without a passport, but those wishing to make an excursion to France need to bring travel with their passports. Other EU citizens need at an ID card to travel to Jersey, and anyone from outside needs a passport without exception.

Customs Limits
On re-entering the European Union from the Channel Islands, the customs allowance is:

· 200 cigarettes OR 100 cigarillos OR 50 cigars OR 250 grams of tobacco.
· 1 litre of distilled beverages and spirits OR 4 litres of sparking or fortified wines and 4 litres of other wines.
· 60 cc/ml perfume
· 250 cc/ml eau de toilette
· £340 worth of other goods
