Guernsey is the second largest of the Channel Islands and is situated about 75 miles from the South coast of England and just 27 miles from Normandy in France. It has a population of approximately 60,000 over a land area of 24 square miles.
The Bailiwick of Guernsey includes the Islands of Alderney, Herm, and Sark, which are open to the public, and the Islands of Brecqhou and Jethou are privately owned. Lihou is an additional island which is owned by the Guernsey Government.
Guernsey prints it’s own bank notes but are legal tender anywhere in the UK.
Getting to Guernsey:
We have pages dedicated to airlines that fly to Guernsey as well as a review of the sole ferry operator to the Channel Islands, Condor Ferries.
Getting around Guernsey:
Car hire is a handy preference for visitors who want a good look around, especially as the low duty means petrol is about 25% cheaper than on the mainland. Parking is free throughout the island.
For those that would prefer to use the bus, fares are 60p per journey and go all over.
A really great way of seeing Guernsey is on the bike. You can leave your car at the ferry port in England and ride your bike off on arrival at St. Peter Port. Nothing is too far away, even for walkers.
