You can book on the Official Eurotunnel Website or by using this booking tool. You will get the same booking reference number at no extra cost.
The Eurotunnel is the fastest but most expensive way to get to France by car, so if you are newcomer to the service it's worth knowing the fares and how they work - it can save you money.
The standard fare allows you to travel through the tunnel any time you want without any restrictions. If you need flexibility because of other commitments, this fare is advisable. If you book well ahead, and we mean months ahead, you can save up to 40%. Eurotunnel often gives incentives to early bookers so the earlier you book, the cheaper the fare. Try booking before Xmas for the following summer.
The Flexi Plus is the main promo fare that can give you big savings for booking way ahead and offers some additional extras, like the lounge facilities and priority boarding. If you miss your crossing you can take the next available departure at no extra cost. You can combine your standard fare crossing with a Flexi Plus return but only if it’s for more than 5 days duration. With this fare you have a specially designated parking booth which offers you the chance to walk around before the departure if you want to.
For a business traveller, the flexi plus fare allows access to fax and Wi-Fi facilities if you need them.
Beware!
1. Motorbikes are not allowed access to the lounge, but are still able to buy the fare if they want.
2. This fare must be booked in advance and cannot be booked on arrival at the terminal.
3. Make sure you travel in the same car that's booked, if you have to change, do it well before the day of travel, or you will get stung!
4. Even though you have some flexibility, don't push your luck, at busy times you can be left waiting for ages before they let you on if you happen to miss your booked departure time. Ideally arrive about an hour before departure and no later than 30 mins before departure.
5. Don’t forget your passport and driving licence! You will need them.
The Short Stay Saver
The short stay saver fare allows you to get short breaks on Eurotunnel for half the standard fare, but be careful, it can be very costly to miss your allocated time of departure or return so read the above very carefully. This fare is available for travel during five calendar days, that means 4 nights away, so don’t get caught out!
The Two Day / Overnight Fare
The overnight fare allows you to spend one night away as long as you return before midnight the second day. Again, the above warnings apply.
The motorail service allows you to put your car on a train for an overnight service to your destination. There used to be charter services from Calais to the south of France which have now been discontinued but there are some alternative routes from Germany and Holland with trains running to Austria, the south of France, and Italy.
