The Hesperia Hotel is about 13km south west from Lanzarote’s Arrecife Airport, in an affluent area called Puerto Calero and close to El Barquito and Playa del Carmen. It’s a very large building with 335 large rooms, most with balconies looking out towards the pool area of the resort, of which there are four in all.
The most surprising and notable thing to mention was how reasonable it was to remain at the hotel in the evenings to eat there. You can get a main course in the evening from 6.50 Euro, which was a real benefit as the nearest restaurants at El Barquito are a 15-minute walk away. So after a long day touring the island, you can relax on site.
The one thing I did find difficult to understand was why the hotel decided to hold a kids club right in the middle of reception with “Aga Doo” at full volume while we were trying our best to relax in the bar. For a hotel this size, there must surely be a better place to do this for what were just a few children at the time.
The beach club at the seafront was a really chilled place to drink in the late evening, with service available until well into the night if you needed it. The Beach Club is also a convenient stopover for if you did decide to go out to dinner at El Barquito in the evening.
The Hesperia is sufficiently out of town for you to be able to see all the stars at night, and the sunsets we experienced here were truly breathtaking.
Location wise, a trip to Timanfaya National Park is just 15 km or so, while Playa Blanca is about the same distance to the south. It’s also worth considering a day trip to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura from Playa Blanca as the Fred Olsen Lines’ fast ferry leaves from here. The journey takes just 30 minutes or so.
All in all I would definitely return to the NH Hesperia Lanzarote hotel. It offers top class accommodation at reasonable prices, and the staff at the hotel were excellent.
