German ICE Trains in London from 2015
12 December 2011

The much talked-about introduction of German High Speed Intercity Express (ICE) trains from London St. Pancras to the continent will not start until 2015 according to Deutsche Bahn, the German rail operator. This will come as a disappointment to many who had hoped to see more competition on the High Speed One (HS1) rail link between London and the continent.

Travel times via Brussels will be cut considerably. London to Amsterdam will take less than four hours door-to-door while trains to Frankfurt will take 5 hours and Cologne 4 hours.

The plan is to use brand-new 2 coupled trains to run to Brussels where trains will split according to their destination: Rotterdam / Amsterdam or Cologne / Frankfurt.

These new trains will operate at 320km/hour with services in the morning afternoon and evening

Deutsche Bahn already offers ICE connections to six European countries in cooperation with European partner rail companies: Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark.

In cooperation with French national railways SNCF, direct connections from Frankfurt to Marseilles via Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Lyon are will start on 23rd March 2012.
