It’s finally snowing in the Alps
06 December 2011

Ski resort owners, tour operators, skiers and all those associated with the world of ski breathed a collective sigh of relief yesterday when snow started falling in the Western Alps in France. This heavy fall of snow has continued across Austria and Switzerland, has frozen, and will provide a base layer of snow for the crucial Christmas and New Year period.

To give you a good view of the snow fall we have put together a series of webcams for you to see the snowfall for your selves. They’re pretty impressive to look at whether you’re thinking of booking a late deal this weekend or not.

At 3500 metres the Jungfraujoch in Switzerland is the highest building in Europe so is virtually guaranteed snow, but look down from here to see the ski fields below to get an overview. Davos and Klosters have received a good fall with skiers out there during the day as you will see.

The Austrian resorts of Mayrhofen and Kitzbuhel have a good covering of snow as do Galtur, Bad Gastein and Rauris.

The worry is warmer weather may come across the region by the weekend which may cause rain at resorts below 2000 metres which will melt all the snow that has fallen.
