Wizz Air expands its Bucharest base

Wizz Air, the largest CEE based low fare - low cost airline announced today that it would expand its operations from Bucharest in Romania starting from 28 February 2008. As announced previously the carrier will base the second new A320 aircraft in Bucharest and in addition to the flights already on sale will commence services to Cluj-Napoca, Brussels Charleroi and Milan-Bergamo.

With these new routes Wizz Air will fly an extensive network of ten destinations from the Romanian capital just a year after its inaugural flight. The Bucharest-Cluj flight will become Romania 's only low fare domestic service.

The domestic service to Cluj will be operated 4 times a week, while the flights to Milan and Brussels will be launched with 3 weekly frequencies initially. The new flights are already on sale on wizzair.com and via Wizz Air’s call center (+40 3 6440 2000) with fares starting from as low as RON 49 for Cluj and RON 69 (EUR 19.99) for the other flights all inclusive.

Wizz Air operates a young fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft from 6 bases on close to 100 routes. The airline offers flights from Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania. Wizz Air carried over 3 million passengers in 2006.

Wizz Air launched its Romanian operations in July 2006 and established a base in June 2007 in Bucharest . Currently the airline has one aircraft based in the capital with one more to start operations in February, employs 48 people locally and offers flights to 10 cities on 15 routes from Bucharest and Cluj.
